Four hours is the minimum on the Argentine side, and it buys one of two things: a single circuit plus lunch, or two circuits with no lunch. Enough to say you saw the falls. Not enough to see the park.
Seven to eight hours is the honest answer. That is the whole Argentine side at a walking pace, Devil’s Throat, the Upper Circuit and the Lower Circuit, with room for lunch and for standing still at the viewpoints, which is most of the reason people come.
The hours you do not spend in the park
Two numbers people leave out when they plan this themselves:
- The park runs 8 am to 6 pm. That is the outer bound of the day no matter what your flights say
- From wheels-down at Puerto Iguazú to actually being inside the gates is about 2 hours, deplaning, meeting your transfer, then a 25-minute drive
So a flight landing at 8 am puts you in the park around 10 am with eight hours of park left. A flight landing at 11 am leaves five, and five is where circuits start coming off the list.
Which is why the flight pair outranks every other decision on this trip. Get the early departure and the late return and the hours look after themselves. Get either one wrong and no amount of walking quickly puts them back.
